William L. Cody, MD [Memphis Alumni /1977] was announced as a honoree of the OneJax Institute 2014 Humanitarian Awards to be held on May 22, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Jacksonville. The OneJax Humanitarian Awards honor those who have demonstrated the highest level of personal and professional integrity, have given generously and extensively to our community, and have been dedicated to the improvement of human relations among diverse groups in our community.
Cody is a recipient of the 2014 Silver Medallion which is given to individuals in recognition of their outstanding dedication and community service. Dr. Cody is an Obstetrician and ever since 1991 when he joined St. Vincent’s Medical Center from the U.S. Naval Hospital, Dr. Cody has spent countless hours teaching young physicians in the Family Practice Residency to care for and treat women. He personally delivered and also supervised the residents, in delivering hundreds of babies.
Much of the time and service he gave was uncompensated. He has been leading annual missions of healthcare providers to Haiti since 2006, providing free care and treatment (including surgery) for hundreds of impoverished patients. He is currently the medical staff president-elect for St. Vincent’s Riverside. He is an active member of the Deerwood Rotary Club and has enlisted the aid of his club in sponsoring nurses’ travel on the Haitian missions.
Dr. Cody is a Past Polemarch of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter, Chairman of the Annual Charity Golf Tournament, and Vice President of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation-Jacksonville.
