Public Meeting
The Jacksonville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., will host its annual Public Meeting on Wednesday, April7, 2010, at Jacksonville City Hall Chambers, 117 West Duval Street, from 6:00-8:00pm. This year’s theme is “Servant Leadership – Bringing Out the Best in the Community.”
“This year’s honorees were selected for their outstanding contributions in servant leadership. Their efforts build community connections in a manner that we believe deserves public recognition,” stated Dennis Gamble, vice president of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter and co-chairman of the Public Meeting.
During the meeting, high school students who participate in the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter’s year-long leadership development program are also recognized. Students take classes on career preparedness, business etiquette, and leadership development hosted by the Chapter’s membership and its community partners.
At the end of the Public Meeting, the winners of this year’s Foundation Scholarships are announced. The scholarships are supported by the Chapter’s annual charity golf tournament which as raised over $180,000 since its inception 16 years ago. Typically, ten scholarships are awarded each year.
“By recognizing some of this community’s most committed servant leaders during the Public Meeting, our students and the public are able to see real people who best exemplify the theme of the evening,” stated Cleveland Ferguson IIII, president of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter. “The students can visualize a path of how they can get from where they are now to where their aspirations can take them upon graduating from college. The evening helps cultivate a mindset that everyone has a responsibility to serve even as they enjoy the fruit of their professional endeavors,” he continued.

- The Honorable Brenda A. Priestly Jackson, Chairwoman of the Duval County School Board
- Linda M. Lanier, CEO/Executive Director of the Jacksonville Children’s Commission
- Tonyaa Weasthersbee, Columnist and Editorial Board Member of the Florida Times-Union
Centennial Award
- Dr. Richard Danford and the Jacksonville Urban League
Building Community Award
- Isabelle Owen Spence, Barbara Moulding, and Leadership Jacksonville
Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Awards

The Jacksonville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., was charted in 1925, making it the oldest African American community service organization in the state. For 85 years, the Chapter has been dedicated to providing mentoring and scholarships to students in the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
